12th Hitchin is a Church sponsored group.
What does that mean? Well, the group is sponsored by St Marys and Holy
Saviour Churches, and the section all participate from time to time in
parades at church services. In return, the churches publicise scouting
and young people from church families often get involved, and leaders
should traditionally be found within the church membership; although
this rarely happens nowadays.
Apart from leadership, how else can adults help?
The executive committee meet every couple of months, and are
responsible for the behind the scenes stuff, like ensuring theres a
venue to meet at, fundraising, paying the bills, and making sure the
groups finances add up.
It's not all work
As all the people involved in scouting have alot in common, a social
scene can develop. Scout camps without the scouts...!! In 2005 the
scouts had their summer camp on a narrow boat on the Kennet & Avon
Canal, taking it from Aldermaston to Bath. The exec committee brought
it back!
If you'd like to get involved in any way, there
are always openings for keen people.
